What Kind Of Name Is Tiresias?

In Greek mythology Tiresias is a blind prophet and soothsayer to the gods Zeus and Hera and served for seven generations at Thebes beginning as an advisor to Cadmus himself.  Tiresias appears in many roles and stories to the gods and kings but is characterized as always telling the truth about the past, present and future, even if the listeners do not always pay attention to what they are told.  Or as we like to think, the first "consultant" to the gods.
